Shreya Ghoshal is one of the most talented and successful singers of India. She has a beautiful voice and a wide range of singing styles. Shreya Ghoshal was born on 12 March 1984 in Murshidabad, West Bengal. Her father, Bishwajit Ghoshal, is an electrical engineer and works for the Nuclear Power Corporation of India. Her mother, Sarmistha Ghoshal, is a literature post-graduate. Shreya has a younger brother, Soumyadeep Ghoshal, who is also a musician.
Shreya started learning music at the age of four. She got training in classical music from her mother and later from Padmashree Late Kalyanji Bhai and Late Mukta Bhideji. She also participated in many music competitions and won several prizes. In 1995, she won the All India Light Vocal Music Competition in New Delhi.
When she was 16 years old, she got a big break in her singing career. She auditioned for the singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and impressed the filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's mother. Bhansali then offered her to sing for his film Devdas (2002), which was a huge hit. Shreya sang four songs in the film, "Silsila Ye Chaahat Ka", "Bairi Piya", "Chalak Chalak", "Morey Piya", and "Dola Re Dola" with Kavita Krishnamurthy. She won her first National Film Award, Filmfare Award, and Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent for her singing in Devdas.
After Devdas, Shreya became a popular playback singer in Bollywood and other film industries. She worked with many renowned music directors, such as A.R. Rahman, Vishal-Shekhar, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Pritam, Amit Trivedi, and more. She sang many hit songs, such as "Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai" and "Chalo Tumko Lekar Chale" from Jism (2003) under MM Kreem, "Barso Re" from Guru (2007), "Teri Ore" from Singh Is Kinng (2008), "Deewani Mastani" from Bajirao Mastani (2015), "Ghoomar" from Padmaavat (2018), and more.
Shreya has also sung songs in different genres, such as ghazal, bhajan, classical, electronic, R'n'B, sufi, thumri, etc. She has also collaborated with many international artists, such as Ustad Sultan Khan, Shujaat Khan, Kailash Kher, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, etc. She has also performed live concerts all over the world and received a lot of appreciation from her fans.
Apart from singing, Shreya has also appeared as a judge on several television reality shows, such as Voice Of India – Chhote Ustad (2008), Indian Idol Junior (2013), Music Ka Maha Muqqabla (2010), etc. She has also featured in some music videos and advertisements.
Shreya Ghoshal is married to childhood friend and current Global Head of Truecaller, Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya, They got married on 5 February 2015 in a private ceremony. They have a son named Devyaan who was born on 22 May 2021.
